Bass are setting up in summer locations on Minnetonka, Waconia, and smaller lakes. Depending on the lake, these locations include deep weed edges, off-shore humps with weeds and/or rocks, and cruising mid-depth weedy flats. The bass are feeding on bluegills in many of these locations, so look for suspended panfish on your electronics and for surfacing 'gills with your eyes on calmer days. Soft plastics work good on edges, and crankbaits are working well on rock humps and over the tops of the weeds on flats.
Bigger bluegills are on these same deep weed edges and off-shore humps. Crappies are suspending during the day but coming to the weed edges to feed early and late. Jig spinners with small soft plastics are good weedline search-baits for the panfish, while down-sized lindy rigs with small leeches work well for deep weed edges and deeper humps. Muskies are getting active. Weedlines are holding fish, but especially look for areas of rocks near and in weeds in the mid-depths. Spinnerbaits, topwater, and crankbaits are all working well. Fish hard and fish safe.
