Leech Lake Fishing Report
Jeff Kemp
July 17, 2008
Fishing on Leech Lake has slowed down some in the last couple of weeks, but continues to be productive. Walleyes have gotten a little harder to find in great numbers with the different wind directions and the Mayfly hatch over the last week. The best results have been along shorelines and reefs in about 20' of water using leeches or crawlers. Crankbaits have also been producing fish mostly in low light periods.
Muskies continue to get more aggressive as the water temps. rise. Several days of warm weather without any coldfronts would really get them going.
Bass and panfish fishing have been fantastic. Panfish are holding in shallow water near sharp breaks. Use wax worms or andle worms on small chartruese jigs. Smaller Bass are in with the panfish with the larger fish in deeper water 10'-20'. The bass are going after black or dark Power Worms or craw colored crankbaits.
