I've been closer than that, (not on purpose of course). If you get there early it's amazing how close you can get without getting busted especially later in the season when thing leaf out a bit. I've found that on rainy days the birds usually stay

Just by looking at it, it shouldn't have nicks or cuts in it and it should look really bent. Is the key still in it? If not, the shaft could be spinning, but the impeller could be just sitting there doing nothing or barely spinning. Your intake scre

I was out all day Saturday in the rain and managed only one 18" Walleye. Funny thing was we were trolling rather shallow for Pike, go figure. Still good to get out. I'd give it another 2 weeks to really fire up the bite.
