We are starting to plan an eastern trip and would like to hunt in 5-6 different states over the course of 10 days. Wondering if anyone from PA could recomend a starting point. Thanks and welcome to FM.

Setterguy.. if nobody chimes in here I'll check with my fiances father who lives in NW PA. He is an avid hunter and has lots of resources.

I lived in PA for a while and never chased grouse, did see a few pheasants here and there, and tons of doves/quail. I think one of the reasons the electricity goes out every time it rains hard is all the hunters shooting them off the power lines everywhere Great numbers of birds that would make a exciting hunt.

Insane amounts of turkeys in tht state if thats your thing.

Well we are going for an all grouse trip next fall, making stops in Vermont, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and Maine. Its something we have talked about for years and have finally decided to just get it done. I appreciate the response, I'm not looking for honey holes or anything just in general parts of the state to try...thanks in advance.

I'll see what I can find out the next time I talk to him(soon). I do know theres a whole heck of alot of huntable land, and its very easy to obtain permission to hunt.

A couple odd-ball laws like NO HUNTING ON SUNDAY to deal with(except coyotes and crows).. so be sure to plan accordingly with that hurdle in PA.

If you don't mind a lot of other hunters, I know State Game Lands 176 (west of State College) will be open for grouse hunting for the first time in twenty years this fall. I was just out there the last two mornings, and there are grouse everywhere, and it is extremely easy to walk since there are cut survey transects every quarter mile, no turkeys though...
