Finally taking the plunge and getting an electric fillet knife. Probably one of the Raps. The rechargable one seems kinda heavy. Does anybody have issues with this? Or does not having to mess with a cord make the extra weight worth it? Plus I'm not sure if the extra cost of the rechargeable is worth it.

i have one..not sure what kinda it is but it works great and it is corded. The Cord doesnt seem to get in the way

I would strongly suggest not getting the cordless Rap. Mine went in the trash tonight. They are generally underpowered even at their best, and once the battery is shot, you are pretty much done for. Rap doesn't sell replacement batteries. You can find them at specialty places, but it seems like a pain in the rear if you ask me, especially when the price of a new battery is almost the same price as a new knife.

I was kind of desperate tonight, so I stopped by Target and bought a standard "Hamilton Beach" corded knife for like $14 on sale.
It whipped through a batch of eyes just as good as any other corded "fishing" knife I've used.

I also have the hamilton beach knife I like it.

I've had the "corded" Rapala for 4 or 5 years now. I can't imagine doing without it.

I've got the Rapala one that runs off of 120 or 12V. I would suggest just getting the one that runs off of 120V. Two of the guys I fish with have the same one as me and we have never used the 12v feature and all it does is add extra cord that needs to get packed into a pretty tight box.

Save the money and just buy the 120V knife and get an extra blade or two while you are at it. Oh, once you get the hang of it you can clean fish in a hurry!

I have a hamilton beach corded one as well and it has been flawless.

If you can wait another month or two, Berkley has a new cordless model with a lithium ion battery coming out. It is fairly light and supposed to last longer between charges. I had a cordless Rapala and, after six months, put it away for good.

I've been running the Rapala 12v/120v for about four years and love it. Don't discount the 12 volt feature when it comes to the shore lunch and cleaning in the fish house if thats ever in your plans. They come with the ability to use a cigarette lighter outlet, battery terminal clips and the 120 volt adapter. Like mnfishguy it's a tight fit with all the cords. It's well worth the money. Saves me a lot of time, when I actually catch fish that is.

The bonus of the corded Rapala knife is an adapter cord that allows you to plug any 12v corded unit (think H2Oc, etc) into a wall outlet and use in the house without draining the unit's internal batteries.

I have had both cordless and 120V and only have the 120V now. The only reason to have a cordless is if you HAVE to have it because of no 120V available. Never had a problem with the cord getting in the way. I tried the Hamilton beach thing but didn't liken the blades, to thick and blunt nosed for me. But I have heard people that use them and like them. I use mine for carving Turkeys now.

I have the 12/120 Rap version and love it. Especially for shore lunch.

are they going to make one that you can put a 18volt dewalt battery in??

I had purchased the "cordless" Rapala model.... had it going on its initial charge, battery pack BLEW UP! Thankfully it disconnected the charging circuit without starting a fire, but blew the pack clear across the basement room! I have a small burn in the carpet from this incident..... took it back to the retailer and no problems getting a REFUND (was absolutely NOT going to get a replacement!)
