I got a pair of nice thinsulate cabelas hunting boots that I lefy outside for about a weak. It smells like a cat or something [PoorWordUsage] on them. I have tried washing in the laundry tub with detergent and they still smell. Any ideas how to get the smell out????

only way i know is to get rid of the boots, i had a cat and homeless women (saw her) sleeping in a new ford quad cab prior to it going into service. we had to pull the seats and carpet out along with headliner and replace all. we tried everything to get it cleaned. you might try some pet urine cleaner from a pet store. i use natures best in the past in the house, wiht the dogs. works good. might help also soak in tomato juice but not sure how well they would hold up. really is a bad deal. good luck

When my hunting boots (or any shoe for that matter) start to smell from the inside I pour a little Arm and Hammer baking soda inside them, let them sit for a while, and the odor is gone. Works like a charm.

I wonder if you could put the boots in a bag with baking soda and do the same thing? Or, what about getting them damp and then spreading/rubbing some baking soda on them? Might be worth a shot before throwing away a good pair of boots.

Baking soda is the way to go. I wash my hunting clothes in it, and even after I shower I will apply it on myself as well. Why spend money on all the scent away products when you can get the same or better results for a Dollar?

My boots get that way all the time from going over them in swamps and then wearing them all day wet along with my naturally stinky feet. The best thing that you can do is wash them out with a little detergent and then let them dry and put a little baking soda in them. If you need them for deer hunting and scent is an issue I would recomend getting a second pair that you try not to get too wet because I have a pair of cabelas boots that are in pretty nice shape but I just cant totally get the smell out.

For cat wee....

Vinigar, standar white, put the boots in a 5 gallon bucket, poor in a gallon of vinigar and top off with water. Leave them for a few hours (overnight) and then dump in a box of backing soda to neutralize the vinigar. Rinse well and dry. If they still stink, wash with normal detergent to get the vinigar smell out.

If that dont work, burn them and start over.

You could try a scent neutralizer, like Dead Down Wind, or a like scent killer product.

Had a flat of nightcrawlers go bad in a fridge...really bad...the neutralizer did the trick to get the funk out of the fridge and the door seals...nothing else I tried tried worked even vinegar and bleach.

Set them in a bucket filled with water and a healthy dose of pine-sol for a couple days. If the smell doesnt come out then its time for new boots.

You need to buy an ENZYME based product that will actually "eat" away the urine and the smell will go with it. All the other remedies will mask or hide the odor...this will actually eliminate it.

I like this idea. Go to a pet store and buy some of the stuff they have that neutralizes the odor. I have some that works for the dog problem and I suspect they also have one for cats. Another option would be to call an outfit like ServiceMaster and see if they'll give you a hint.

What size are they?

If you knew it was cat urine and knew exactly where the source was you could continually treat that spot and eventually neutralize (not mask, but it may take awhile)the odor. But depending on where it peed it may be difficult to continually get the neutralizer to/on it. But for less mess, a little more expense, and to make sure you get it all, get an ozone generating machine. Put the boots in a sealed tote with the unit, set it on high power and leave it in there as long as it takes. Ozone is one of the three most powerful and efficient oxidizers in the world and will keep attacking the odor source until it's gone. Ozone (O3) is very unstable (30 minute half life) and is looking to lose an oxygen atom, so it bonds rather quickly with any available hydrocarbon (odors) and also destroys bacteria, mold, fungus, etc, not that you have that going on yet.
