Anyone have a digital thermostat in their fish house? I've got an ice castle with the cheap coil type thermostat and it isnt very consisitent with temperature. Anyone know of a digital thermostat that would work with 12 volts?

I am pretty sure that just about all thermostats will work, most of the digital ones need batteries, I might be wrong but I don’t think so…

I have just a plain old mercury thermometer in the porty. I just zip-tied it to a pole. It's usually sixty five and sunny in there cool

Most stats work with 24 volts, but also work with batteries. The batteries usually last a long time. The honeywell focus pro would be an excellent choice for this, and only uses 2 AA batteries. This stat is as simple as it gets for use. It has a button for switching through heat/cool/off and two buttons for adjusting the temp. About 50 bucks and very easy to install and use. Also lights up when you touch a button so easy to use when it's dark.

Coil type T-stats are notorious for this, referred to as "temp swings". However, they do have a manual anticipator that you can set according to the amp draw, that will minimize the "swing". Check your specific instructions for that 'stat. Bgmny sums up the rest of it. One important thing also is your 'stat placement...AAT (Ambient Air Temp) is higher towards the ceiling...try to set your 'stat at about 4 feet.

this is very true. also watch that it is not placed on an exterior wall. I lived in a house once that had the thermostat on an exterior wall and I always had huge swings in temp depending on how cold outside it was.

Since most ice houses are 12 volt, is this a problem? Do they make a 12 volt digital thermostat?
