I'm sure this has been answered before, but ethics aside, is it legal to hunt by or over a salt block? Or is it considered baiting?

Anything that is strictly mineral (which a salt block is) is ok.

Pure minerals are fine as stated above. Deer seem to stop craving it about mid August, however.

Dump all the salt you want, in my 26 years of rifle and having salt available, they don't even go close to it, I've only seen them licking it during Mid-March through to about August. I would rank it very low for an attractant in November like less than a %. Grunt calls and rattling and some have had scent luck, not me, but an uncle has had some bucks attracted to a scent area over the years.

A lot of people get rich because deer hunters are willing to buy overpriced snake oil.

If one can find a doe herd or a group of does and stay on them, thats all one needs to fine a buck. The bucks will come to these does when the does come into heat.
Nothing else needed other than maybe a little doe in heat.
That has worked for me for many years. No special sauces for me.

A lot of people get rich because deer hunters are willing to buy overpriced snake oil. Funny thing..deer have dug a nice sized hole in plain earth after I dumped some deer cane out to see how they reacted to it. Seems to be pretty effective.

Some scents do work but i think harvey is right. This time of year if theres does, the bucks will come, hopfully anyway. I do like light fox urine on the boots just as a cover scent or earth masking scent just to cover unnatureal oders from the pickup and such.

I totally agree with Harvey Lee...Find the Does. I've shot so many bucks chasing the hot doe. The one thing, and only thing I put out in the woods is the "mock scrape". Though finding the does is fool proof every year, I've seen and had taken two moster bucks checking those mock scrapes out. Simply find and area where does are hanging-find a buck rub or other buck sign-place your "mock scrape" near there-bag yourself a trophy!!!

We use trace mineral blocks and have taken 2000+ pictures since the middle of August. They usally stop using these when the leaves fall but not this year. These blocks were purchased at a farm supply, I'm not sure if I can say the name but its in Elk River. We have pictures of deer, grayfox, pine martin, rabbits, coon, crows, squirrel and porkys all licking the block. I don't know whats different about these blocks, they look the same as we had before. No grains or other things just minerals but they seem to work great
