I had a bad day hunting Saturday on Pelican.sucked mud up in the motor, overheated it and had to leave my decoys there. If anyone comes across some decoys on the north end I would appreciate it if you can return them Thanks. I also want to send a big thank you out to the 3 guys that said they would be back to tow us in. Thanks for hunting over my decoy's, Thanks for saying you would come back to get us after you un-loaded some weight, THANK YOU for leaving us out there!!! True sportsmans to say the least.

I know he seen us but oh well it was just one not all of them. I know what his boat looks like so if I see him out there all set up I'll just stroll into his spread and grab my decoy and say thanks for grabin my decoy dude I owe you one laugh laugh grin

I had a decoy float away yesterday. I watched it for a while and was going to pick it up when I headed back to the ramp since it was blowing right toward the ramp. I motored up and down the shoreline and could not find it so I figured it got back into the reeds and was lost. When I got to the ramp, another hunter had picked it up, wrapped up the line and left it beside the ramp.

I have a hard time thinking some group of hunters would leave another group stuck out on a lake as large as Pelican. Karma will get those people back. They will find themselves in need of help someday and everyone will just pass them by. I hope you are able to get your decoys back.

Yes. Thank you. I like hunting that lake because the other hunters are generally very nice and they are good hunters. Plus, it seems to get less pressure than some of the other lakes in the area. I do not get many ducks off that lake but I like not dealing with people like the original poster encountered.

I think that it is going to be my last time on Pelican. They can draw it down 8 feet if they want to now. I just hope those guys are out hunting when it happens lol.

I agree. We've been hunting there for the past 7-8 years and have met some very nice people. Some people still do stupid things, but it's public water right?
I thought it was you cuz we saw a boat go in and up and down the shoreline wondering what the heck is going on. We did see that nice small flock set in your deeks from west to east... they worked nice and it sounded like you dropped some birds out of it! That cripple gave you a lot of grief huh? a couple of the shots sent water 6 feet in the air! Glad you got it! smile
See ya next time. ~Moonie

The one we were chasing was a golden eye and once we tired it out, my friend shot at it too close. He blew off the back half of the bird! The other chance we had was finished with a nice true double by him --- on common mergansers. I have had so little luck this year I am just happy to get some dead birds in the boat. Today I got two hooded mergansers and was happy enough with that.

I hope you guys did not think we were too close. If the wind had been blowing a different direction I would not have set up in that spot and cut you off. By the way, did you guys not see that goose come down the shoreline after we got to the ramp? Kind of funny to see him coming in a waiting and waiting for the bird to be killed.

haha! Well hopefully he left some breast meat for ya. Pretty neat that you shot commons too! Any drakes? We got a couple hoods that day and a real nice ringneck that i debated putting on the wall, but don't really have a couple hundred bucks to spare right now.
No worries on where you were set up. We both got shooting. I debated going to that spot when we got there, but remembered the cover was kinda sparse. Oh well.
Didn't see the goose. Shoot! Was it locked into our deeks? or just sailing over? I may not want to know the answer wink That's probably when we were taking some pics of the ringy, killing time. Oh well. if you're ever going out there solo and need a second or looking for info... shoot me an email celv0051 at d.umn.edu
