The one proposed for Eyota, MN outside Rochester certainly drew a great deal of scrutiny. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2008/05/12/eyota_ethanol/(google eyota ethanol for more stories) I hope posting that news link was ok.

You need to say that while looking in the mirror. Total carp. I try to keep an open mind about all things and listen to both sides before casting judgment. Unlike what you just demonstrated-but I expected as much.

From the Duluth News Tribune, if anyone wants to attend. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold joint public meetings to take comments on the recently released environmental review of the proposed PolyMet copper mine near Hoyt Lakes. The meetings will be held Dec. 9 in Aurora in Memorial Gymnasium, Mesabi East Schools, 601 N. First St. W., and Dec. 10 in Blaine, Minn., at the Schwan Center at the National Sports Center, 1700 105th Ave. N.E. Both meetings start at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by open-house sessions starting at 5 p.m. Public comments will be accepted through Feb. 3. Copies of the report are available at the Duluth, Minneapolis and Hoyt Lakes public libraries and at DNR offices in St. Paul, Grand Rapids and Hibbing. The document is also available at www.dnr.state.mn.us/input/environmentalreview/polymet/draftindex.html along with information on how and where to comment.

Against!! That is those peoples full time job. Me and many like myself have to go to work every day to pay taxes and support our families. Unfortantely that issue to 90% of us is just not that big of a concern.

Here's what on the front page of the "Friends" issues page:
"SULFIDE MINING - It has decimated water supplies, killed fish, destroyed entire landscapes, and left taxpayers holding the bag for expensive clean-up operations almost everywhere it’s been done before. Now, the sulfide mining industry has set its sights on northeastern Minnesota, including many areas at the very edges of the Boundary Waters."
There will be PLENTY of people there that are going to be against this project. After 30 years of serial suing the Forest Service over permit issues, portages and logging plans, this will be their new Public Enemy #1.
PS - I had to chuckle at the earlier post that said special interest has never shut down corporate projects. Can't speak for corporate projects, but I know of plenty of public projects that would be completed by private corps that have been stymied for years & years.
I'm as concerned as anyone as to what this could potentially do to the water up there years down the road. But I'm afraid no matter what is shown in the impact statements, this will be fought tooth & nail to the bitter end. They have even made a movie called "Precious Waters" that will debut in St. Paul in November and then released on DVD. This short film features the voices of citizens, scientists, business-owners and advocates discussing the potential for toxic pollution from new sulfide mine proposals.
Let the games begin.
