Bring your warm clothes and rain gear. Looks like rain/snow all through the weekend and into next week.
We hit lake Superior and the River yesterday and didnt catch any walleyes trolling sticks/cranks. We did fireline and leadcore and neither worked.
Graphed a TON of fish on the big lake but nothing would bite. Im guessing they were shallow lakers because we saw a couple surface and 1 surfaced like 2' from the boat.
Muddy water in spots on both the lake and river.

I was out last Tuesday but I don't think I was fishing deep enough. One northern for 3 hours. Lots of chewed up minnows. This weekend appears to be fading but they're forecasting temps in the mid 40s for late next week so the boat will be out for another week or two.

Yup Im hoping to get up there at least 1 more time this fall. I have to run the ring free for a trip and then top the Lnd off with some premium and marine stabil again.
Mark give me a holler if you need company.
As long as these kidney stones I got last week behave Ill be getting out more now.

Steve, Sorry to hear about the stones. I've never had them but I understand that they can be very painful. I'm hoping for a week from Saturday or Sunday. Lite pikes are getting a little scarce but Chalstrom's had them earlier this week. I'll keep an eye on the weather and keep in touch.

Made it out on island last friday evening. Weather was crazy and I stayed in protected areas close to the house. Usually decent fall areas though and only picked up one dink eye and a dink pike also. Fished from 3 untill dark which was 6ish.

Northlander do you deer hunt? If not, this might be your last weekend to get the boat out on Island. The weather looks unbelievable(knock on wood) for a day of fall fishing. Gunflint or anyone else getting out for the last time?

I'll be out Saturday unless the wind kicks up over 20. I may try to get out for a few hours Friday afternoon depending on the weather.

Speaking of deer hunting, many moons ago we were fishing on one of those resivour(sp) lakes during the deer season and watched several deer swim out to the islands from the mainland to hide.

Who said they are dumb animals??

speaking of deer swimming, this past july, i was fishing out on the st louis river and was driving back to smithville, right around buoy 57-58, and i saw something in the river about 20 yards in front of my boat.. i slowed down and it was a mama deer with her two fawns trailing closely behind... they were swimming from the minnesota side to the wisconsin side.. i stopped the boat and watched them.. the mom and the first fawn had no problem getting out of the water and darting up the very steep hill. the second fawn fell a couple times before she made it up. nonetheless, it is one of the coolest experiences i have had while fishing.. if i wouldn't have slowed down, i would have hit the mama deer with my boat and it probably would have been fatal.

I have watched wolves chase deer from the mainland to the islands on island lake many times. I've also seen quite a few wolves headed from the mainland to islands during hard water season.

Good luck to all fishing and hunting this weekend. It sure looks like a dandy!

My buddy and I were fishing the river this year and saw these three deer swimming in spirit lake. We sent the picture to the Duluth news paper and they put it in there one Sunday. Anyways here it is.

Is anyone else going fishing this week or is it pretty much over for the year. I'm really tempted to get out at least one more

time.

Sherpa- no way!!! i wonder if these are the same 3 deer i saw?? the ones i saw were swimming from the spirit lake area towards wisconsin, and it looks like that is exactly what these three deer are doing.... are 2 of them fawns? do you know what day/month approximately this was? what are the chances?
