So this is kind of a shot in the dark, but I have been looking for some land to purchase that could serve as a duck camp reasonably close to the metro area. Found a guy offering a small piece on Wakanda near Willmar - just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of this lake? Worth going to take a look at the property if waterfowl hunting would be a top priority? Tough to get a feel from the DNR site and not really looking to waste my time driving and his time showing me the piece if its a definite no go for ducks and geese. Thanks.

Wakanda is an ok lake for ducks! Doesn't seem to really get decent til the northern birds come down! I would think there would be better areas for sale with duck land! Wakanda is a big body of water and seems to get filled with coots more than shootable birds!! You will always see ducks on the lake but i would think there would be better spots available that are for sale!! Just my 2 cents..............

Does anyone know if Wakanda got totally froze out this past winter?

I'm sure nothing is 100%.

The vast majority of fish are dead and hopefully it stays that way. I'm on the next lake east and there are a few carp left in there, as well as some minnows, but what a difference it made in the water clarity and vegetation growth. I hope this winter is as brutal on the underside of the ice.

Some carp survived the winter, or migrated back into the lake. DNR stocked with 1.7million walleye fry.

If you are at all familiar with Wakanda and know that it has been a cesspool for the past 8 years, you would be utterly shocked to see how clear the water is now. It went from having six inches of clarity for the past several years to now having six feet of clarity and a major resurgence of vegetation.

Unfortunately, the duck shooting has remained poor this season, but I would say there is certainly hope if the prairies stay wet and Wakanda stays clear and vegetated.

More money well spent...........LOL

So I take it the fight to keep the aeration out of there hasn't gone well eh?

Well, if we get another normal winter the aerator isn't going to make any difference anyway. Let's hope for lots of cold and snow!
