Im just wondering if anyone on here has any experience with the motors that strikemaster is putting on their augers? Its kind of a big deal since all the new 2 cycle augers are going to be running them since techumseh went under. I just havent heard much about them. Of course their site hypes them up to be the next greatest thing but who really knows-really? I know about the robin motors on the strikelight and the tananka's on the NILs but the solo is new to me. I guess Im really looking forward to ice when I start thinking bout augers. Post on!!!

I just bought one a week or so ago. She runs great without a load. The general consensus on them from people that got to try out the test models have all been good. People seemed impressed. I had to adjust the idle a bit with mine. RPMs were a bit high. No biggy. Starts up by the 5th pull from cold. You have to be quick off the choke or she'll kill. She sounds mean!! I just got the 2hp magnum. It's my first power auger and have no experience with them so you'll get better answers from other people. I'm getting anxious for ice myself!!

I used one last winter and it was a very nice auger. No doubt in my mind this auger will be a huge hit for Strikemaster.

Deadeye: Solo engines are a German made engine...they've been made since the late 40's, and are considered by many to be one of Germany's best small engines. It's a huge company, they put Solo's in small planes, earth moving equipment, etc. From what I've heard, they are a very good, tough small engines. They also put them in chainsaws..might this be the auger engine? That's about what I know...

Well, I suppose if they are good enough for planes they will probably be ok for augers. If your motor quits in a plane your toast so they gotta run top notch.
I knew they were in chainsaws but I have never heard one run. Up north my lumberjack freinds all ran sthil or husqys so thats all I know for chainsaws.
Im pumped to try one out. I love it when new power equipment comes out. Hopefully its up to par with how reliable the strikemaster stuff has been for me. I keep kicking around getting a new auger and its tough when the one I got still runs good.

I have been kicking around upgrading my auger. I have an older Model 30 Jiffy that runs great. But is so heavy and I want something lighter. It has to be about 40 lbs. I noticed the Solos in 2hp, 2.5hp, and 3hp are all 26 lbs with a 8" auger. I am really intrigued I have been a Jiffy fan for most of my life. But like the weight of the strikemaster solos.

splakeshaker I would wait on the adjusting. It is probably set for colder weather than we have now. Too late now but I'll bring the screwdriver along if needed. Thanks for the advice

If anything it will idle faster when its cold since the cold air will lean out the A/f mixture.
