The price of wings have gone up with the start of football and they say by superbowl time there will be a shortage and the price could go as high as $4.00 a pound. I checked at Sam's club and they were $1.97 a pound and you could buy boneless skinless chicken breast for $1.98 a pound so I guess its time to make buffalo chicken fingers instead of wings.

At one time wings were cheaper then gizzards.
Then Buffalo Wings came along.
With that price hike, less (my favorite)wings w/oyster sauce for me.

Surface Tension-

Side note...

Do you have a recipe for the oyster sauce, or is there a product you buy? I have always wanted to try it.

eeewww... HAHA just kidding. But I'm a wing lover and this news hits me hard. I guess it's fingers like Jim said up top. I also make an asian glaze that goes on them.. Tasty tasty tasty. But my go to wing is smothered in butter and Franks hot sauce.

Add a tablespoon of vinegar and they will be perfect grin

Asian wings with oyster sauce is another great snack.

Soon someone will invent the next new appetizer using chicken thighs and you won't be able to afford them either.

Look at the cost for Pork Ribs too. Baby Backs are even more and they have almost no meat on them. It's all about supply and demand.

Golden Buddha, man did they have a great spread of food at happy hour.
That is where and when I got hooked on wings w/oyster sauce.

irishjigs, I buy the bottled stuff and warm it up before slathering it on the wings.

I'm was never big on chicken thighs till Sarge served some off the grill that he de-boned first. Huge Huge difference if you de-bone them. I guess I shouldn't have tipped you off. Maybe it was chicken necks. Yeah thats it, it was chicken necks, they're great de boned. smile

It is probly caused by all the eggs that they are using to create
flu shots for the h1n1. I justed paid 4.09 lb for hot dogs and then wondered why i didnt buy steak instead! oh well !!, I loved each one I had.

It's definatly crazy what has happened to wing prices. Once in a while I can get them at the local market with the two pieces still attached for 99 cents a pound. I co-owned a restaurant for a few years about 5 years ago and it was a struggle to get a good consistant wing at a good price.
As far at the thighs go, I grill boneless ones all the time and brush em with my wing sauce as they are finishing...

I put em in a foil packet or aluminum pan covered and seasoned with a little beer, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Put em on the grill to cook about 20 minutes over medium heat to par cook.
Then out of the foil or pan onto the grill for another 10-15 min while getting brushed with a sauce made of butter, redhot, pepper, garlic, a little OJ, and a little honey. Sometimes I add soy sauce, sometimes a bunch of parm cheese, or bbq sauce... Wing sauce with extra garlic and parm cheese in it was the fan favorite this summer at my house...
