I remember dad's last year of deer hunting, group of 4 with 1 doe tag. We had not seen a deer that year, [bad year] and it was last day of season. Dad had cancer and sat in the forks of three trees on the ground. I heard a shot from his stand and waited 15 minutes to go check. When I arrived at his stand he had blood from the chest down and I thought he had a accident. When I asked what happened, he said a doe came thru running and was low to the ground. He put the sights between 2 trees ahead of her and shot as she appeared. Broke her back, and she was trying to crawl away. So he jumped on her back and cut her throat. Only deer we got that year. He was hunter all his life.

Then, of course, the family took turns biting from the still-beating heart.....

Sorry, MM. I honestly did not mean to offend you. Had I written the original post that you did, I would have seen the humor in the comments. I'm sure your dad was a great guy.

Hey Motley man I'm a deer hunter too and my dad introduced me to it. I still have him around but a lot of my favorite memories of my dad are hunting and fishing with him. I thought it was a cool story. Sorry your post wasn't respected for what it was. My respects to your dad and your memories.

Hey Motley man,

I thought it was a cool story. Nothing wrong with a knife to the throat to finish them off. Bleeds them out better anyway. I like storys about the old school guys like your dad.
Keep telling it like it is Motley. You dont need to tip toe around to try not to offend some pussyfoot B@St@rds.

Thanks for the good word. And I hope the others take a thought about their life with their fathers and remember.

Hey I like the story too. You have stories to tell and memories that will always be with you. How has shamineau been going. Used to go up there every summer.

Have not been out for a few days. Heard they are picking a few walleye in the evening. Been going to Gull, but not doing much for walleye. Northerns seem to be hitting. Panfish are spotty, but can be found. And thanks for the good word on DADS.
