Hey d&b, I just got an email from my brother-in-law. I'll copy his message here:

"We will probably have the trap in by the end of the week. The run usually
starts pretty slow so I would say that by April 26 there would be a good
chance for fish action. They will probably be in for 2 - 3 weeks, so there
is a large window of opportunity to see some fish. The hatchery will run
until the end of May, until the eggs are hatched, weather depending."

D&B,
I may have a chance to check the hatchery tomorrow. I will keep you up to date as far as what is happening there.

The Pike Bay hatchery is in full swing now!
They made their first net pull yesterday and had a very good catch.
I saw lots of nice 5# plus walleyes in the female holding net.
There is also a very good sucker run going so if you want some for smoking or canning they are available.Be there at about 7:00am. It's first come first served.
The charge is $5.00 per garbage can full(about 100#) and the money goes to the Vermilion Sportsman Club to use on Vermilion improvements etc.
The walleye run should improve as the weather warms.

Point of Interest! The spawning run at the Pike River Hatchery represents only about 5% of the Walleye spawning run in the big V! Also our walleye frey only go to other lakes after our(V's)quota is gathered. Most excess has been going to Upper Red. The strain is similar and if you have done any fishing there you will notice that they seem to be doing quite well! See ya on the water!

Went to see the walleyes....sure was nice to see...fun to see the bigger ones, but all those keeper size fish look great too!Really got the fever now...if I was Cliff , it sure would be tempting to drop a line.. as he lives right acrooss from the hatchery, man that would be hard to do!!!!
