I would like to indirectly thank "guideman" for some success in my trip to the Big V this past weekend. After having NO luck for 4 hours one morning for pike and smallies. We decided to try an island in Norwegian Bay that Ace suggested for smallies last year. All of the shorline casting only gave us one muskie follow. However, after driving up and down the dropoff to the island 3 or 4 times, we were consistently seeing fish show up at the bottom of the dropoff in 26-28 feet. It was a bright sunny day, high skies, calm water, barely a breeze....hardly the weather for walleyes at 2:00 in the afternoon. I decide to throw out a lindy rig, 6 foot snell, chartreuse floating jighead and crawler. I didnt even have time to put the trolling motor down before I was reeling in a 23" walleye. (my biggest ever) We ended up catching half a dozen walleyes over about 3-4 hours. Nothing really big, and not a ton of action. But we caught walleyes when we usually struggle a great deal. We didnt catch a whole lot of fish in our 3 day vacation, but I would like to thank you all for your help. I STRONGLY suggest Black Bay resort if anyone is looking for camping or cabin rental the owners are more than helpful and extremely nice. Some of the nicest people on the lake. Its close to great fishing and the location is extremely quiet. I was having trouble starting the motor from a boat I rented and George offered to lend one of his so we wouldnt be out of commision. Thanks again for the help. --Tom
