Trout Lake

We will be heading into Trout Lake June 20-24. I believe the ice-out is 2-3 weeks behind Vermilion's, is this true? What do you think the chances of having a successful outing are? If anyone can give suggestions on areas of the lake to try, or any other info, I would be very grateful. Thanks

Hi Tony, the ice out is about a week to 10 days after Vermilion in an average year. The deep clear water takes longer to warm up, the water will still be on the cool side in June. The mouth of the channel to Little Trout or the Pine river would be a good place to start. The mouth of Merrit creek will also hold some nice walleye. Small jigs tipped with minnows or a leech should get you the best action but minnow style crankbaits are also very effective. If you are going motorless you can fish in little Trout, it should have some excellent fishing that time of year. I hope this helps you out, It would be a good idea to keep an eye on the forum for updated information as we get closer to your trip. ------------------
