Stopped by DuShanes on my way home from work and there were 3 guys out on the ice just a little ways North from the boat ramp. The ice near the shore looked very thin and there was only 2-3" of ice out there. I would not recommend it yet because of the springs near shore. Be safe.

if you're looking for size definitely go to vermillion. But be careful out there because there's a lot of springs near shore and i dont know how the ice is this early

How thick does the ice get on the vermillion? Where abouts does the fishing take place? I love fishing the vermillion in the spring, but I don't know if I have the brass to try it in the winter. eek

Fishing takes place at Dushane to the left of the boat launch. The ice was about 8 inches at the thickest i saw it last year but strong. There's actually a lot of people that fish there, but i think people are waiting a little longer before they head out except for the few that know that area well. Nice crappies and the occasional pike or eye there

If you know where to go you can really pound the eyes later in the year when the ice is thick enough in the channel. Just put in your time and be safe....a little exploring might just be well worth it. The crappies are fun too because it is basically all sight fishing as the water is only a couple feet deep.
