I live near 'Tonka and drive past it every day (Spring Park to Excelsior area). As of mid-last week much of it was still open. Most bays are frozen over now, but I still see some open water in the center of several bays. Drove past Wayzata Bay yesterday and it's still mostly open. The dang wind needs to die down for a couple days to really get some ice forming.

Gray's Bay is frozen over and I've seen people out in the middle of the bay Sunday and today.

I haven't seen anyone out on either Black or Seton yet. Black still had some open water late last week.

Thanks tip upclyma for the update. I was planning on getting up early Saturday and going to the "usual haunts" with a spud bar to check things out. Black, Seton, Phelps, Spring Park, etc.

Think the west side is a little further along than the east. Been people on Emerald/Seaton/Black for over a week now. No idea how thick the ice is though, not a lot of people but there have been a couple. I would be a little extra careful out there as the lake froze almost completely over, then half of the bay would break up in the wind and the other half stayed frozen. I am expecting there to be some varying ice thicknesses.
I have seen that West Arm, North Arm, Priests, almost all of Cooks, Halsteds, Black, Seaton have been froze over since at least Sat if not sooner.

Kodiak...I would think so for sure. With temps being in the 20s for the next 7 days with no snow in sight...we should make a ton of ice! I personally think this is going to be one of the better ice seasons we have had the past few years.

I heard snow flurries.....and the high between now and then is 25. 80+ hours of cold temps should do some serious good!

I wonder how thick the ice has to be before it is unaffected by a big snowfall. Assume cold, ice making temps. Anybody have a clue?
