Well I seem to have misplaced my old reliable sunflower head heater and i'm shopping around for a new one, i see fleet has a few diff. options on sale, i was wondering if anyone has tried the Mr. Buddy heaters?? if so which is the best option for heating portables, i'm leaning towards the small one but wondering if its warm enough. Any info would be great, thanks, Jason

I depends on the size of your portable. If you have a 1 man the Buddy Heater should work just fine, but if you have a 2+ man I would go with the Big Buddy. I have a Big Buddy for mine, but also a sunflower for a backup when it's really cold.

I am with jwhjr, big buddy in a Fish Trap Voyager, but always bring the sunflower for back-up, big buddy heats well and if you need a little more just turn the fan on

I think there are some great optons out there for heaters. I still use a Coleman heater I bought about 15 years ago, it works awesome but they stopped producing them for safety reasons. The Buddy heaters are really nice too. I have had one for the last three years. They are nice in a portable, they produce a nice radiated heat and they have an adjustable control allowing you to turn it down if you would like. The newest heater on the market is The Base Camp. I haven't had a chance to use one yet but we have some in the store, they are lightweight and look perfect for ice fishing. I think you would be happy with either one.

Is that Coleman you are talking about called a Focus 5? I had one for quite a few years and never had any problems, I borrowed it to a friend and it started on fire and burned up his portable shack.

Yeah it is the Focus 5. I love mine. I still see some on [YouNeedAuthorization] once in a while.

I have the smaller Mr. Buddy in a two man portable and works fine for me. I don't always take my jacket off, but keeps the hands warm, ice off the line, and holes open. I like that I won't get over heated with the adjustable feature.
