I was on Vermilion yesterday which is just a little southeast and there was 5 inches of good ice. Elephant is much smaller so I would think there would be at least that much.

5' to 7" of solid clear ice on Vermilion in most areas. The Big Bay area may have less farther out though.
Lots of early pressure ridges forming this year! It may be a bad winter for them! frown

vermilion is averaging at least 6" in our area and many areas are at 8" plus. Have been around most of our area on a sled and have had no problems. Of course, that does not mean that there are not "bad" areas out there.

Pelican should be about the same.

Ice There is only a little bit of snow on the ice except for right along the shore where there is a couple inches (of snow) There is enough snow to keep the slides cool. Should be a few machine running the shorelines this weekend. I do not know what the ice is doing out in the middle of Big Bay. Maybe Cliff will chime in with a Big Bay report.

Sorry guys, been traveling for a coupla weeks and have not kept you posted. Checked with the Lodge also today and the only thing to add is that there are two ice houses on the lake now, but no fish tales yet.

Hey Ron, I thought we recharged Elephant lake just before opening.

The big Bay area of Vermilion that I have been fishing has around 5" to 7" of ice and very little snow.
