Can anyone tell me why manufactors recquire 100 lb propane tanks for these heaters? Is it a safety reason or a functioning reason? Won't a 20 lb tank work? Thanks

don't know wghat size heater you are talking about---I had a 30K heater and I had a lot of trouble keeping it going on a 20lb cylinder. I talked it over with the propane guy and he said that any heater that size needed a 100lb tank, or nearly that much "gas producing" capacity. When I changed to a 20K heater, it ran properly off the 20K tanks.
Hope this helps.

The only time I have trouble with mine is when it is really cold, then I go to 2 twenty pounders and it works better.

it has to do with how fast the lp can boil off and make propane gas the smaller the container the lower/slower it can boil off and make gas thats why in the summer time you get frost on 1lb bottles
