Drove around the lake this morning. The lake is almost completely iced over. The area between a little west of Caughren Point(roughly by the creek inlet) to Lindberg Point to Coon Point was still pretty much open in the middle. If the wind stays down I think it may finish icing over by tomorrow. Didn't see any one venturing out yet.

The ice doesn't seem to be forming as fast as I expected. The area in front of me from shore out about 200 feet to the outside of the bulrushes froze over Tuesday night and then the rest of the lake capped over Thursday night except for the area in front of Holiday Resort was still open. I thought maybe I could at least get to the end of the rushes since that has been frozen since Tuesday night. Got about 40 feet out and the ice started to crack under my weight. Knocked a hole with the spud par and only measured two and a half inches of ice. Guess I'll wait.

Was out working on Osakis (w/ a property owner) yesterday and up where he was (the north arm) it was essentially all the way open still! Pretty surprising in my opinion since the "main lake" appeared ice-covered from the road up the east side...

How are ice conditions today? I'm looking to get out for one more duck hunt and was wondering if There's any chance of open water by either access. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.

No chance at Battle Point Access, DNR Access or Town Access. As a matter of fact the only open water is a little stretch near Holiday. That finally capped over Tuesday night but it looks like the warm weather today and the high winds reopened a little sliver of it. There was a big swan sitting out there for awhile this afternoon.

Retired can you tell me how much ice. I have a place on Shultz Bay and hoping to get up next weekend. If your on Schultz's Bay you have got to be close because that is where I am at. I was out this afternoon. Mostly around five inches out from my place. Found a couple spots where it dropped to about 3 and a half. There are a few people walking out from Battle Point. Saw two big wheel houses parked on the ice right at the Battle Point access today. Don't think they are ready to take them out yet.

I saw the same two wheel houses on the other side the next day at the sand access in the narrows. Those goofballs had broken thru at the access with one of the houses and had the atv hooked up and a truck attached to the atv to pull it out. They managed to break all the ice up around the access. So I'm sure it will make it hard for the rest of us to go out when there is enough ice to bring out the wheel house. I dont know why people insist on putting their lives at risk this early. I was out there with a life jacket and these guys are pulling out wheel houses on 4 inches. Everyone needs to be a little more safe on this early ice. Anyway, just a few early ice large mouths and some pike. Where are all the walleyes? I heard from a guy that he limited out on Reno.

Has there been people out on the sunken island west of the sand access?

Haven't seen anyone over there yet. They are slowly working their way west of the access but no one that far yet.

I haven't confirmed this myself and Retired would certainly be a better source but I've heard there might be as much as 6"? I would proceed with caution if you go out.

You will find 5 to 6 inches in most areas except maybe the main lake. No one has been venturing out very far yet. I have only seen two ATV's out so far and they were only going out about 300-400 feet from shore and then walking from there. I have not seen anyone out in the middle area between Schultz Bay and Battle Point. Noticed a few small houses were out down by town this morning. There is a pressure ridge that has been fairly active that runs from Battle Point all the way across to the cattails on the west side of the lake. It was coughing up a lot of water yesterday on the west end of it. I think with the cold temperatures we are supposed to have this week things will be real good by next weekend. Callaway, where on Schultz's Bay are you located?

Hopefully. Isn't there supposed to be a wind sail race or something this coming weekend?
