I was wondering if anyone has info on metro perch, particularly the north end. I have caught quite a few on Gervais and johanna, but was a few yearrs aago. I can find them on some lakes but many times they are not much bigger than the minnows. Any ideas? Thanks

Most perch lakes in the Metro get pounded pretty hard if word gets out, and then it's no longer a good perch lake.

There are some lakes with good perch... but those that know about them don't talk about them.

The only sizeable perch I've ever caught in the metro have come out of minnetonka.

Minnetonka may be it.

I have kept a few from Waconia, but when I got home I wondered why I kept it.

Boy, I don't know guys. I've guided on tonka for 15 years now and I can honestly tell ya I don't recall ever catching one any bigger than 6 or 7 inches tops. You may be able to find a few that are filetable depending on your knife skills but there aren't any jumbos for sure. Jumbo perch are an entirely different genetic strain of perch compared to a regular yellow perch. The closest lake to the metro for true jumbos is Mille Lacs.
If you have an underwater camera you can find schools of little perch and they're all the same cookie cutter size about 3 inches long. There may be a few bigger ones out there but I've always considered them just part of the forage base.

rush lake isnt to far from blaine 40 min but we dont get great #'s of them but 9-10-11+ mix in couple sunfish and crappies. never have pounded out there but if going to travel 40 min should just head to the big pond another 1/2 hour.
