lets say a store has a vx-1 on sale for 199.99 which they state is 50 dollars off. Being in the market i see what appears to be the same flasher for 350 bucks in owatonna.

so:

1.is a vx-1 a vx-1? the 350 dollar one said something about "Pro" and for the life of me i can't remember if the original 250 dollar one did-that was on sale for 199.99.

could there be a 100 dollar difference? or should i demand a price match (since they do offer it)?

i'm just really confused right now

The VX-1 was recently upgraded with more power (and a couple of other things I believe). It is now known as the VX-1 Pro.

The flasher that was less expensive was more than likely the older version.

The new Humminbirds look like the real deal with the digital reading on the Ice-45 and Ice-55 models.. Anyone had a chance to try them out yet?

It's looking like my next investment.. I like the idea of the "target line" (Ice-55 Model) that u can set at the spot u mark suspended fish and drop your bait to that exact spot every time.

see ive never had to fish like that or said to myself that hey i could use something like this! the fish i'm usually are on are active and move around to water colum a few feet. when the jig is on the fall they sometimes "sky rocket" up! i do need the bottom zoom though.

Just purchased the Ice-55 and I have to say it is an extremely nice unit. The digital readout and back lighting are tremendous! The digital depth readout even changes when there are fish picked up along with the sonar color mark! Not to mention the digital zoom which gives you a readout of exactly where you are zooming in the water coloum! The variety of colors is also fun to play with and there is local representation if any maintenance issues come up, which I am not particularly worried about. I compared this unit to the Marcum LX-5 and Vex FL-20 and I just liked all of the additional features that it had. My previous unit was the LX-3 which I liked, but it is time to hand it over to my son. Hummingbird did their research before they put out these flashers and I think it shows. If anyone has any other questions about the unit just ask and I will try to help. No expert yet but I have had it out twice.

Forgot to mention that the Ice-55 sonar has a different frequency than the Marcum or Vex's so there is no interference between units. I am sure some of you have been in a house with Marcums and Vex's, Marcum's and Marcum's, or Vex's and Vex's and it can be quite a challenge to tame down the interference. Two Humminbirds side by side are supposed to have no problems, I will cross that bridge when I get there and let you know.

DTRO is correct, the $200 VX-1 is the old model that is discontinued. It's a good value at $200 but it is an entry-level flasher that originally sold for $250.

The VX-1P or VX-1 Pro is the new model in 2008. I will be putting it on sale for $300-$310 in the next day or so. Improvements over the earlier VX-1 are more power, improved signal processing, more levels of interference rejection, and includes a soft pack.

The new HBs look great, that's for sure, and I've heard some good things about them from people that have used them. I haven't used one yet but am really looking forward to it. Of the three HB models I think the HB 45 is the best value of the bunch, it's $100 cheaper than the HB 55 but the only things you give up are the target line feature, the additional 3 colors in the display, and some output power. And there's currently a rebate to get a soft pack for the HB 45.

You can check out all flasher models and pricing at Pro Fishing Supply Ice Flashers if you want. All prices include shipping.

Perchjerker,

Are the Gander GSX's the same unit as the old VX-1? The VX-1 going for 200 bucks still has the bottom zoom feature? Let me know--may pick one up for my son's b-day.

Hey Zep, that VX-1 does have the bottom zoom and if you are thinking about getting a flasher for your son at that $199 price I would get one from Dave at Profishingsupply sooner than later. When they are gone, they're gone wink
