Glad to hear it wasn't something major. HB's are nice looking units.

Yeah, I am mailing it in tomorrow. I really wish it didnt take 6-8 weeks to get it back, and I really wish I didnt have to pay $8 for shipping, but i guess it is cheap compared to $400 for the unit.

To those of you thinking about this unit I think you will really enjoy the big flat screen and all of the neat features.

I just cant explain what a good day today was. The weather was awesome, I had the whole lake to myself, my new flasher now works like a charm, and I caught a mess of fish. In fact, I am the only one to have cut holes into this lake, but it is small( under 100 acres) and I am sure it will be fished out by christmas, it always happens where I live.

So you didn't do anything other than removing the extra cable and switching the stop to the ducer cord? I hope that's all there is to it as that sounds like an easy fix! Glad to hear you've had success with the changes and I hope to have similar results with mine.

that's all I did. throw that other chord away. like it was mentioned before, the only reason it is there is because of patent infringement.

I hear ya on the 6-8 weeks, if they're a little slow you'll be getting it just in time to store your flasher over the summer grin

There is no problem with them. I just talked to a bait shop owner up here about the problems with the gain. He said that it was normal to have it up higher, heres why.... the vexilars and marcums have the gain dial that goes from 1-10, right? You only use maybe 1-4 on those. Humminbird took that 1-4 and made that spaced out to 25, so it will make it easier to zero it in. It actually makes a lot of sense to do that. I think that was a great idea, itll take a little more playing with, but you will not have that useless 6-10 that you would have on the vex's or marcum's.

That doesn't mean that there is no problem. If you can't pick up a jig in shallow water on the highest gain settings, then there is a problem. Sure, most people only use 1-4 on their MarCum or Vexilar's, but lets say they are using small jigs and need to turn it up to 6-7, well if the 1-4 scale on a Vex is equal to the 1-25 scale on the Humminbird, where do the Humminbird owners turn their gain to in order to pick up the small jig? Using your theory, Humminbirds should only need to be turned from 1-10 in order to pick up the jig, but that wasn't the case.

Now with that said, it seems that the "problem" has been found, and it's a very simple fix. I hope to get out Saturday and find out for myself.

nah, i was saying that they took the 1-4 off the vex's and marcums and spaced it out in the HB. Its not my theory either, im just trying to help out with finding what might be the problem. what i was going for is that with the transducer being off kilter with the support cable would be the problem, but ill see for myself friday. ill pick one up to try out, i was just saying that there isnt any problems with the unit, thats just one way they designed it. The problem is most likely from that support cable on the transducer, like some other people were going for.

Mozy,

I am really interested to see if your results will be the same as mine. I sure hope they are. Once your issues with the transducer are fixed you will have no problems seeing small jigs in 15-20 ft of water with the power way down.

Last night when I was fishing I was using a little #12 hook and I was picking it up in 17 ft of water with my gain set on 4. Please post if removing the support cable fixes your problems.

The support cable will distort the cone angle, loose it.
