I don't think this story seems odd at all. It is very possible for this to happen to anyone fishing alone. If you lose your balance and fall in to the freezing cold water, you will be in trouble with a life jacket on or not. With this particular angler he was muskie fishing, which means 9 times out of 10 he was standing up and casting. Hit a big wave and it is not that hard to lose your balance. Muskie fishing in a good chop definitely requires you to be on your toes. Standing and casting near the edge of the boat, leaning waaaayyy out on a figure 8, it puts you in some precarious situations at times. Toss in a big wave that you don't see coming and it would be very easy to end up in the drink. Hate for something like this to be a reminder about water safety but accidents can happen to the most experienced and confident people out there.

As for it being easy to fall overboard, I was told that a high percentage of men who fall overboard are found with their zippers down. They get to the edge of the boat as far as possible to relieve themselves and get unbalanced and fall in. Your boat can drift away from you in an amazingly short time. Two weeks ago, I lost an oar from my duckboat, and before I could get the motor started, my boat had drifted out of sight of it. I never found it, and that was in a small area.

I heard that he was found on Tuesday or Wednesday this past week. I was up there from Tuesday night until Sunday. They found him near Myr Mar. His hand was sticking out of the ice when they found him. Bad bad situation, but I am glad his family will get some closure.

Yeah i just looked at a bunch of stuff online and i cant find anything about him being found. Sadly i dont think he will be found either til spring. God bless the family

This is very sad but we should use it as a learning experience to always wear some type of PFD. Even if the water is cold enough to allow the onset of hypothermia it at least allows the athorities to find your body. Do it for your family.

This is a terrible situation for the family. I wish them all the best and my prayers are with them. A trick to use is to go to your favorite store and get a cheap red whiffle bat. Cut out the handle, and there you go, custom made "urinator" and you don't have to be anywhere near the edge of the boat.:0
