Haven't been over there to check on the ice yet but do fish it quite a bit in the winter as it's close to my house. If you do venture out be careful, the lake has current coming in and out of it and can take a bit longer to freeze up good. Post what you find if you get over there.

I thought it might have some current due to Rice Creek. Does this lake freeze up enough to drive on when that time comes? Or does it stay pretty thin due to the current?

People out on Crooked, huh? I actually did pretty well out there the past two winters. The channel at Coon has always woked well for some early ice pike. About 7 or 8 years ago my father in law and I were read the riot act for being on Bennett lake in Roseville right before xmas. The cop circled the little lake then walked out on the dock and said they recieved calls about two guys trying to kill themselves out on thin ice.The ice was over 6"thick and we told him we wouldnt be out there if it was too thin.He continued to give us a hard time but finally gave up,didnt catch anything anyways.

Nice! I've explored many of the secret little lakes in the Chan/EP area, so if you ever want to compare notes, let me know.

Bush Lake in BLoomington has 4" on the south bay and holes from a previous fishing outing. Felt pretty good to be out there.

Hey Carp-Fisher, you have any luck on the couple of lakes we talked about last winter? North isn't accessible anymore, but south might just be my first try. Good Luck!

McGurk those are probably my holes from today. There weren't any out there before me that I saw. Pretty much 4 inches everywhere I went on the South Bay. I didn't venture too far North as I know a lot of that just closed up recently.

FWGuy, I thought those holes seemed fresh! Too bad about not having any more luck out there. Usually see tip ups in that area and a truck at the landing watching. I would think to the north off of the weedline in the deeper hole would produce some crappies, but I haven't tried it myself.

Hey McGurk,

Good to see you here. Nope, those bodies of water were pretty disappointing last year--I don't think I'll even bother this year. Might do some exploring.

Yea, we've pulled palm sized black crappies out of that hole in years passed. Not much for size but they do give the kids some action to talk about. The pike always provide a nice surprise tho.
