Not sure how the ice is but I saw one person out there at about 2 p.m. in front of Swannies.

I've never fished Middle C during hard water. Is the colony in front of Swannies a panfish spot or do folks get walleyes there as well?

Todd --

Mostly a pan fish spot. Good spot for crappies mostly. A person can catch walleyes but there are bteer spots for those than in Panfish central.

Thanks Hit. The reason I ask is my uncle is bringing his grandson over from Fargo Friday afternoon to initiate him into the whole ice fishing sport. Mid C is close and hopefully has enough action to keep him interested. Would that be a decent spot to direct him to IYO? I always seem to be going after those blasted walleyes and don't have a whole lot of panfish experience to share with him.

Yes --

Send him there for crappies, but Lief might be the best for oveerall pannies.

If it was me I would go to Middle. Upper is good too, but Middle is easy to find easy to fish.

He WILL have action.

Thanks Hit! That sounds like the place to send him for starters.

Tad

Hit is right, both middle and leif would be a good bet. But I've had better luck early on on leif. If you have a little kid with, you will rip panfish, northern, and bass all day on leif. Take a left at the summer island sign (if your heading east) and follow the road to the left all the way down to the lake. Good luck, I hope you and the little guy catch fish all day.

Just talked to DNR guy Phil and he said to watch the area east of Swannies -- good reminder for people that have never been out there.
