I got out on a smaller lake in the cross lake area and it had 3 3/4 inches out about 200 ft from shore after that it was about 2 maybe as it only took 2 smacks with the chisel to get through......2 nites of fishing and 2 walleyes....the first night first fish through the ice this year and it was a perrsonal best 30" walleye!!!! went the next night and landed a 24.5 incher both released!!

I will be going out to Edward this afternoon, its usually one of the better early ice, at least for forming ice anyway. I will report back what I find. It was very cold last night, and when i went to school this morning, it was only 7 degrees, more ice is on the way.

Thanks buddha!!! I am still on cloud nine after that......it is real rewarding when you catch a monster by yourself but at the same time it sucks that nobody was there to share in the experience!!!

know what you mean, but here's a tip, if you hit the ice with a good swing of the chisel, and it doesn't go through, and the ice is good and clear...it will hold 200lbs with no problem. Nice catches... GL!

Mudpig,
How did you do on Edward? How deep is the ice? if you don't mind sharing. I would like to get out end of the week sometime.
Thanks

We actually didnt do very well, Edward has really produced for us in the past, there are alot of eyes in that lake, we were on our spot, but maybe we were a little too high up on the break, or too deep, dont know. We have to move around it a little bit to find where they are. Usually its a later evening bite, 7 to 9 kinda thing, we will be back out, we will find them, had one fish last night, smashed one of our corks real hard, and my buddy on Team PigWhores, somehow missed it. 5 really good inches of ice yesterday, it was cold last night and the ice was talking alot, so theres going to be alot more by the weekend.

Who has a prediction on the first knucklehead driving a vehicle on the ice? Anyone think this weekend. There was a small wheelhouse on Crow Wing this weekend.
