My daughter and I got out Saturday afternoon chasing panfish over by Grand Rapids. Lots of people out fishing and skating. We managed to catch a few gills, but nothing to get excited about.
Last night I tried for walleys and was pleasantly suprised! I caught 8 and kept 4 in the 14-16" range and threw back 4 cigars. No perch to speak of, which is wierd for this spot. Also lots of other people out fishing and skating. I couldn't believe the people that were coming out to walleye fish at 4:30??? I started at 3:30 and caught most of my fish before that. Small gold slender spoon w/ shiner head and gold buckshot spoon w/ shiner head. If I would've fished a second line with a bobber rod, I'm sure I would've got some of those "sniffers".
About 5-6" of ice on both spots. Now matter how many times I do it, I still get freaked out walking on that clear ice and seeing the bottom and weeds, and stepping out over the drop off!

Fished Jessie Fri-Sun, not a whole lot of action, 12" eye, a tulibee, and some perch. It was odd that I didn't get into any hammerhandles, usually can count on 3-4 a day. But it was nice to get out on the ice, all 4" of it. There were a couple spear shacks near the access.

I could tell it was my first trip on the ice, forgot to bring my chair, my little shovel, and enough propane.

so about how much ice is on the smaller lakes right now? will be up the weekend of dec 12-13.

From what I've been hearing Glenn, right around 6" is the norm on most small lakes. By the 12 and 13th you should be able to use an atv or snowmobile on the smaller lakes for sure. I'm off the 13 and 14th if you want to try and get out. Let me know when it gets closer to that time.

Was only able to make it out on Sat. Me, my buddy and my GF found 4-7 inches on one lake and after a couple hours had our 30 crappies flopping on the ice. Lots of people out in the area.

Is anyone been fishing leighton lake or any of the other lakes near remer, how much ice is there?. i would like to fish crappies up there this weekend. thanks

thanks bmc, sounds like we should have good ice by then. 10 day forecast has below 0 temps that thurs. we have one guy coming up that might try the north end of winnie but we pretty much stay near the cabin that weekend as friends from the cities are going to be with us. headed up that wed nite, we fish a small little lake about 2 miles up yhe road from cabin for one day then stay by the cabin. we do need to get together some time to fish. i will plan a weekend with no company just to hook up with FM folks.
