I've always appreciated this site, so thought I would join and share my two cents.

Went out on Cove Bay on Saturday. Walked past the rough stuff and found 6 to 7 inches all the way to Mazominee Point. A few guys had ATVs in the bay as well. One guy put out their perm. before the end of the day. It seemed pretty safe to me.

Went home with a few perch - nothing over 10.

Saw a few guys using tip ups - I think they were going for northerns. Others were in portables, so may be going after the eyes. Only about 10 guys in the bay total. I'm sure that will change this next weekend.

The perm. was not a small one - hard to say with it being across the bay from where I was, but it was fairly good sized. I was a little surprised to see it come out, but with ice close to 7 inches I guess they thought it could hold.

For those that are wondering about the rest of the the lake.
Yesterday I dove down the westside from the north end down ,what I saw was open water as far as I could see to the east. so its going to be a while for the north end and the west side of the lake before any one gets out

That is the case pretty much every year. Those places are the last to feeze up. Lybacks is reporting 4-5 inches out to Gull Reef which 1/3 of a mile out.

Hoping for decent ice in early January as a few buds and I will be fishing the south end. Thanks for the reports all, I'll keep lurking smile
