I like to have 4" with or without portable. Really depends on what your comfortable with, nice to fish with somebody too this time of the year!

Is that what the DNR suggests? No. Will I do it anyways...you bet. Lighten up and answer with some respect

Three inches of GOOD ice is plenty for me. I'll be wearing a life jacket though.

Walking on and fishing on are a little different to me. While checking ice a couple weeks ago I walked on about 1" but I usually wait until 3" to fish it. Now that I've got my Artic Armor It gives me a little piece of mind not that I wouldn't fish 3" without it.
