I was out bowhunting on public land yesterday that is an archery only allowed area. Interesting how landowners consider those types of spots to be their own private sanctuary. Initially he said it was private land but I was a ways away so I might not have heard him correctly. I pointed at the sign he was standing 10 feet away from that said you are now leaving state land. I was on the correct side of the sign. By the time we got up close he had all kinds of other stories to tell me. I needed a permit to hunt their signed by Wetterling. I wasn't supposed to park where I had parked. He was telling me all this just to help keep me out of trouble because the DNR was really cracking down.

When I left and I was done hunting at that point I called the tipline which I have programmed into my phone. I ran into the guy when I was scouting the area trying to find some other stand sites deeper in. I got called back by the DNR after leaving a message with the state patrol. I'm going to talk to a CO that specifically works the area I was hunting in to make certain of everything. When I checked the state website of the area I hunted I had parked in the exact area they showed on the map to the site.

I was pretty irritated by the whole thing. Last time I tried to bowhunt near the metro I wound up down range of some idiots out doing target practice on a WMA which they are not supposed to do. I was about 20 to 30 yards off of their firing line. That was 10 years ago. I try to go out again 10 years later and get lied to by a landowner.

Makes me wish I was a landowner so I wouldn't have to deal with this kind of stuff.

By the way I was wearing orange since it was muzzleloader season, and was using a climber treestand while I was bowhunting on the state land. I was within all state regulations for public land, and had my license with me. Some guys always want to point fingers like your in the wrong. I was totally within regulations and had worked hard to make certain that I was.

Tell the CO about this guy. It may just fall under "hunter harassment", a crime they take very seriously.

Would you mind saying what public land it was?

that is amazing. Some people need to grow up and find a hobby of their own.

I talked to one of the CO's that works the area and I didn't get his name written down. He was returning the call to me and was prompt today about doing so. Kind of nice to see that my taxes seemed to be being well used in this situation and that I was promptly called back by 2 different CO's who we're very pleasant to talk to. I was totally in the right from what he said and he knew the exact area I was talking about. He said I can hunt their again within the regulations of using archery equipment. He also said I can park exactly where I parked as long as I do not block up the whole paved type drive area which would be hard to do anyways.

I won't go this weekend since I'm going muzzleloader hunting up by East Grand Forks, but I'll probably give it a try again before the season is over.

If you felt like you were harrased than that guy was harrassing you. File the complaint, I am guessing you are not the only one this has happened to

I agree with Picks. It sounds as though you have been on the receiving end of hunter harassment.

I believe there is also another law stating you cant tell people to leave land you dont own, or have to be a manager/representitive of the owner with proof of it.Or you are in violation.

It is absolutely amazing what some people will do! I own 40 acres in northern min. and have been told to leave it on 3 occasions. Twice by the same group. The other guy acknowledged that I probably did own the land but that he decided to start paying the taxes on it so I had to leave.(Yes, I have been paying my taxes!) I left but then the sheriff showed up and escorted him away. The group still show up on occasion but the neighbors keep a good watch for them since these folks have shot at game in their yard. Amazing!

WOW, it's crazy how many different complaints I've read on here this year. Whenever someone has one bad day of hunting, they want everyone to hear about it. Sure, I know that stuff's going to happen, and No, I don't like to see it happen, but what good does it do to rant on here? It just provokes other people.
Here's a couple good quotes I found on the Web that sums it up pretty well. If you have time to whine and complain about something then you have the time to do something about it. ~Anthony J. D'Angelo, The College Blue Book and another by Benjamin Franklin: Constant complaint is the poorest sort of pay for all the comforts we enjoy. I would not want to be lied to about land either, but just remember to be thankful for the opportunities we have to hunt, and if somethings not right, try to do the best you can to fix it.

not trying to be a jerk but i dont see him complaining about a bad day. He was explaining how some guy tried to tell him to get off public land. How would you like if someone told you to get off your hunting land?
I have to admit that i told a person to get off public land this year by accident. We have big trespassing problems and i thought this guy was on our land, turns out he was on the line, probably 10 feet from out land, i felt a little bad but you never know these days, some people walk right into your land and claim they dont know when they know very well they were wrong
