Was on horseshoe today spent the morning chasing some crappies had fair luck with most of the fish coming from 18-22 ft. a few decent ones pushing the 12in mark all catch and release on the crappies. Mid day was spent going after them catfish the chain has so many of. The bulk of the cats were found suspended over deep water 30+ though I did get a few while fishing for walleyes in shallower water. A hammered gold spoon with a sucker minnow head was the hot bait. Around dusk I tried my luck for some walleyes. I ended up keeping three 14-17in and throwing back 9 or 10 that were all 12in and smaller. A small goldie under a bobber was the ticket tonight as I only pulled two with a jig. The spots I hit today had 4-5 in of clear ice.

Thats where I was this past weekend. Upper had anywhere from 3-4.5 on it, but with the last few days being cold at night, im sure for the most part its at least 4" all over. There were 3 portables on lower, and one guy I talked to said there was some decent ice out there. dont know how the bite was on lower, but upper was poor. got a little better in the evening rather than the morning, but both were slow.

also, I did see 3 portables on the black hole on clearwater, and a few more between bj's and the access near the bar on clearwater. I'm thinking of heading there tonight to try for some crappies. It may be a better bet than the spunk lakes.

I was told that there is still some open water on Middle Spunk by someone that lives on the lake.

Yep, middle is pretty open on the South side for sure. Driving by that lake reminds you to be safe not just now, but any lake you go on for the first time. Come December 14th when there is just 2" on that someone who doesn't know better will kerplunk a 4wheeler or something.
