Just like anything, it varies from spot to spot. Our bird counts are better than most all the state in extreme SW Mn, lets not confuse that with thinking we have South Dakota numbers, but I can verify that in walking two spots on Saturday morning with some fellow FM'ers we kicked up over half a dozen roosters. For a few guys to go out and kick up over half a dozen cacklers in just two spots is pretty good. I think that is consistant for most area's down here I hunt. With a good dog, not pushing the property too fast, a guy can shoot his birds. Is that fair enough... I don't want someone to come back and say, I didn't see [PoorWordUsage]. But can tell you there are birds out there! Have fun, that is the biggest thing! And don't forget to be safe! Good Luck.

Muc's got it right on. If you work the right area's with a good dog, you will have success. I hit em pretty hard 3 days in a row and got my limit those three days, and on 2 of those days my buddy that was with got a few also.

Walk long enough and far enough and you will get your chances.

I was out around Marshall on Friday afternoon for about two hours, just me and my trusty GSP. Total, we saw about 20 roosters or so and a bunch of hens, I wasn't thinkin though and pushed the cattails WAY too fast. Got two birds, but could've been done a lot sooner. The fun thing was seeing my pointer flush all those birds, especially on public ground!

We were out last Thurs and Fri in Heron Lake and we saw a lot of roosters. The problem was they were jumping so early. We hunted 2 spots, the first spot we saw 5 roosters jump about 200 yards in front of us and 1 the dogs missed and we about stepped on. The second spot we saw about 15 to 20 roosters and only got 3. The second spot was a much bigger piece of land. I dont think I could count the number of hens we saw. It was a fun time.

It's great to read your guys' reports, friend of mine was down that way last weekend and pretty much said the same as what I read here. I'm holding out hope to make it down that way this coming weekend to catch some of the rooster action myself.

I see the NWS is calling for 2 - 4 inches of snow, how close are they?

Thanks

Mike

I'm leaving in three hours to see if I can pop a few in the snow.

We had pretty close to three inches of snow northwest of Worthington a bit . They are calling for a smaller shot tonight. Plenty enough for tracking and pushing the birds into the heaviest of cover especially with colder weather rolling in. Beware of the cattails though. If there is any current of water running at all you are going to get wet from what I saw last weekend.

One of the coolest things ever is having a couple of pheasants burst out of the snow, 3 feet in front of you!!!!
