Went to shag today and it is frozen all the way across. i didnt check to see how thick the ice was but there was some snow on top of the ice. Also looked at miners and there was some skim ice on it. There was ice around the shore all the way around it looked like. It wont be long now! I am ready to hit the ice badly

Darrin, there was one small spot open on the main portion of Shag about sundown today (I can see it from my upstairs window), but with -7 and no wind tonight, it'll be locked up thoroughly tomorrow, is my guess, and as long as we don't get strong wind for the next few days it should be making ice really well.

Man, what a thing if we could take snowmobiles on Shag on Tgiving weekend. With five solid inches on the smaller lakes today already, it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

This first/early ice season is shaping up pretty darn well so far!

Darrin, there's not enough ice on Shag to do anything but dream about walking on it. Next weekend, well, that's another thing entirely . . . grin grin grin

Well there were people out on sandy point today. They are crazy to be out there. I guess there is about 3 1/2 inches out there.

Yeah, I figured there'd be ice building on some spots there since late last week. Not much ice was made yesterday or today or for the next couple days, but I reckon it'll turn cold again by week's end, and then we'll have better ice all over the bigger medium-depth lakes like Shag.

I need 4 inches of solid clear ice before I feel comfortable, but I weigh 250, plus clothes and the portable shelter. Not to mention 3.5 inches may be fine, but that thin spot of 1.5 inches you don't see coming will put you in 33 degree water mighty fast!

yeah for sure...CHECK THE ICE ALL THE TIME...with only 3.5 in of ice most places there are for sure spots that have only 1.5

i do not want to go swimin in 33 degree water...

does not sound like fun to me!

Im not a big guy at all but i still dont feel safe unless there is 4 inches of ice. What sucks is that i cant go fishing until after thanksgiving break. I dont have any of my equipment up here and im going insane and ready to hit the lakes and catch some pannies and some eyes.
