Check out this website for a view of Lake of the Woods, and Red Lake, taken today. You can change the resolution to 250 for more detail, if you wait a while for it to load and PAN around a bit.

Looks like some of the big lakes are frozen, (Upper Red, LOTW's, Leech) but many of the smaller ones not. What up with that? One might think the larger water would freeze later than the smaller lakes. Or am I missing somethin'? Any insight?

I'm not sure, but I am suspicious that some of the smaller lakes may be frozen, but don't appear so because of no snow cover. It is possible clear ice won't show upon the visible satelite and ice with some snow on will. Therefore it could depend on when the lake froze, and if there were any snow cover. As we get more snow cover we should be able to figure it out. Also the depth of the water has more to do with it than the size of the lake.
