Who's fishing through the ice this weekend? Is there any good ice on the river yet? How is it behind the fire house?

Usually the first houes pop up in a few scattered locations on the river (near 8th street, and between 8th and 1st street by the little bay) I will almost certainly be on the river this weekend down by 8th street near the Swenson House! It's been waaaay to long it seems since I have been on the ice. This time of the year always makes me a tad nervous though...ice thickness varies greatly from spot to spot and most areas haven't been tested yet. I might go to Grand Forks on Saturday, so I might not get out till Sunday, but I'm gonna try to get down there for sure sometime this weekend...gotta make sure the augers working, heater ready with propane and LIGHTER/MATCHES, Ice fishing rods rigged, ice scoop packed, tackle, pliers, etc all ready to go......WOW, I better get busy! **** Use caution if venturing out behind the firehall, especially anytime soon. The current "what little there is this year" keeps the ice pretty thin near the railroad bridge and I guess all bridges, but especially there. I would hate to see tracks heading out and then a big hole in the ice! If your looking for action behind the firehouse like this past spring, you're probably not gonna find it. This past spring was a fluke if you ask me. I could be wrong, for some reason the fish were there this spring, so who knows they could be there this winter too, Maybe early ice will be awsome there too, but I highly doubt it. Year after year after year of fishing that general area through the ice, it hasn't produced any better than other areas in the river. Believe what I'm telling you too, I'm not just blowing smoke...I would have to say I fish that "area" more than anyone else. Why? I don't really know, because I have yet to catch more than a couple Rock Bass and Perch through the ice down there. I guess I just keep hoping to find that "secret spot"...BUT, I have never fished there around first ice...so again who knows???? O.K. Enough ranting, I just didn't want you to have high expectations...you certainly can try it if you want and if you hammer the little walleyes great. Are you gonna be down on the river this weekend???? If so what kinda house are ya gonna be in, if any. I will be out in my Fish Trap Guide with a bunch of holes drilled in the ice checking the thickness leading all the way to my house. OF COUSRE THIS ALL DEPENDS ON THE ICE THICKNESS!!!!!

Yes, all depending on the ice thickness, I will be down on the river. Most likely at the edge of the weeds below the Swenson house. I was just wondering what anyone thought of the "freak" that happened this year by the railroad bridge. It might be worth a try. If I go, I'll probably try for an hour or two perched on a bucket. If I don't sell my 6800, I'll bring that with and decide when I get there if I'll use it or not. I haven't looked at the forcast for Sunday yet. Either way, I'll be driving a 2000 chevy black ext. cab. See ya on the river(not with the pickup)

Anything is worth a try...well almost anything? Like I said though just be careful on the ice in that area. Well, I was stuck in Grand Forks all day with the wife shopping. (It wasn't all bad though, I was able to purchase some razor sharp new auger blades) Anyways, I didn't get down there today, but did see one house set up between 8th and 1st street. So I know it's at least thick enough to hold that guy! I'm gonna have all my stuff loaded up and head down there after the Vikings Game on Sunday...unless they are losing badly at halftime, then I'll be down there early. I think I'm gonna try setting up in my secret spot that everyone knows about. ? Just off shore from the rocks near point by the Swenson house. Maybe I'll see ya down there...Good luck if you get out and be sure to post a report on how you did. Hopefully I'll have a good report.

I didn't make it to TRF today. I've been working on getting the sleeper ready for LOW. Did you go CatManLee?
