Jonny - take a pic or 2 for all of us that are jealous as heck right now cry I am in the cities so I am probably a week away from "safe" fishing. Wouldn't you know it I have to travel to London/Paris/Amsterdam starting next Saturday for 8 days. I knew the second I booked this business trip the weather gods would turn cold and make fishable ice. mad So now i have to pencil in the 10th as my first official day to hit the ice.... Can't wait!!

Let us know how you did.

Today I found:

3-5 inches of ice where I fished. Deeper or other locations could be thinner. We are going to need to keep a very close eye on the rough stuff close to shore in the next few weeks if we get any snow on it. The ice is white and not the strongest stuff in the world, a good snow fall will make it very spooky or just plain slushy.

The water is a VERY cloudy but that should clear up fast now that the wind can no longer get to it. Water closer to inlets may be cleaner but also closer to thinner ice.

Fish where present but not jumping out of the hole, soon as the water clears we should see a huge increase in activity.

I could see pike cruising by on the Marcum camera but I did pull away from them as I was looking for walleye and was not geared for one of those tankers.

All in great to be on the ice again and looking forard as it it starts to fire up. The pike will most likely go nuts for a couple weeks making for some great guide trips, I can't wait!

Nice pics Jonny. Funny that you are ice fishing and I am going fishing in a boat tomorrow. Hard to beat Upper Red though. Those pike sure sound like a blast!

Today was the first day in the Artic Armor suit and I was impressed. It moved super easy and was dry even when kneeling down on the wet sharp ice. One thing I didn't know was I needed less clothes underneath! I about cooked myself with long johns and jeans on, its a heat maker thats for sure.I also loved all the pockets. I had my camera, GPS,tackle box, phone, ice picks, snacks, spare gloves, wallet, chisel gaurd and even a spare lighter for the heater in my pockets with pockets to spare.

Pretty cool rig and a good feeling knowing my suit will float when crossing sketchy ice.

Looks like fun Jonny. I will be running my new Arctic Armor suit on Monday out for my first ice trip of the year. North Metro area ice. Did you get any walleyes today or just testing things out?

Does anyone think there will be enough ice off the break for a fourwheeler by Friday the 28th?

Should be safe but no one will own up to it, check it as you go. Tonight I hit anything from 4-7 inches and a couple spots I didn't slow down long enough to look. eek

Not fast and furious but steady. I have been able to get into walleyes, except tonight I took a chance and ran out deep on a theory...the fish shrunk big time out deep, great numbers but tiny little rascals.

We are looking at some stirred up water but a good sound/rattle presentation has been producing walleyes. The pike have gone missing as have the perch but once this water settles out in the next week or two we should see the action get even better.
