Does anyone know the regulations for driving on and or using gas augers on the chain of lakes, ie Calhoun, Harriet? Since you cannot use motorized boats does this apply to winter as well?

I believe you can use gas augers (at least, everyone around me seems to), but you can not drive on the lakes.

Best to check. I have relatives that got tagged on Calhun for a gas auger last year. When in doubt get the hand auger out.

"Gas powered augers are legal to use(holes limited to 10 inches in diameter). No permit from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board is required to use a portable fish house. No person is allowed on City Lakes between midnight and daylight of the following morning. The use of motorized vehicles(cars, trucks, ATVs, snowmobiles, etc.) is strictly prohibited on City Lakes."

from a webcam it looked to me like calhoun had iced over yesterday and with this temp i don't see why the chain wouldn't be froze complete.

Nokomis had 80% of the lake covered with ice but it was sporatic areas with small gaps of water. I'd say after tonight it'll be iced over solid if its not too windy.

i would give those lakes a couple weeks, if we don't some real cold weather. The deep water keeps these lakes very iffy.
