I pay 17.50 a month for sewer out on Mary. Glad I don't live in Kandiyohi county. I would think the costs wouldn't be that much more up on Miltona?

I have a cabin on Miltona and those rumors of high cost are true. It will cost me about $35,000. This does not include the monthly usage fee. It would start at $25/mo with annual increases. These are just estimates. We all have a responsibility to keep the lakes clean, but this project is not about lake quality. The clarity and phosphorous has not changed in 20 years according to available data from MPCA. Data about the septic systems has somehow disappeared at Douglas County. I won't even begin to tell about the behavior of the townships and the sewer board. There are much better ways of dealing with septics than a big pipe system. Ottertail is the benchmark for dealing with lake properties. This big pipe is nothing more than a financial bonanza for the engineers and the lawyers. As it stands now the project is in trouble. The financing agencies are questioning the outragious cost.

Pistol Pete: I don't have a 3 million dollar home. Mine is assessed at 229,000. You can use all those numbers from the CLRSD you like. The truth is the monthly cost( service, assessment, tax, and overruns) will be closer to the 150-200/month mark.

Eye Guide: Has the system improved your lake quality. No, according to the land and resource management office of Douglas County. The fact is the big pipe is not the cureall. Unless the watershed is controlled the change is minimal.

I'm not saying a pipeline is the cure all and for the cost that they are proposing I'd be questioning it as well. No I can't say the water quality has increased on Mary, but the way it's going we won't have to worry about water quality because the water is running out the outlet faster than it will ever come in. Since they dug the ditch the water has been extremely low and the way it looks the County/DNR don't plan to fix their screw up. So I know how helpless you guys feel up there. Good luck and I hope you come to a conclusion that's good for both the lake and the residents of lake Miltona.
