Are there any good full moon strategies some would like to share? I don't think I have had much luck beyond sunset. Does the bite get better later as in 2 hours past sunset?

It can get better, especially in lakes with clear water. On stained lakes I have found that the bite peaks right before sundown and then may pick up again, but not till very late. I like to troll cranks after dark (just easier than casting) and during bright nights, something with some crome in it is never a bad choice.

Don't be fogged by all of the full moon banter. Good bites in the fall are driven more by water temperature than anything. When the water temperature gets close to 50 degrees F, start fishing hard with cranks or jigs and minnows.

Anyone have any stories of an overly successful full moon night? If so share. I'm gonna make a run tonight and I have my doubts that it'll be any better tonight than last night.

Well i have gotten to know a resort owner on Big Winnie a bit and he shared with me the full moon fishing 2 years ago on Winnie. The night before the full moon about 6 eyes came to the boat. Full moon night over 50 came to the boat with 8 over 26". The night after the full moon again 6 to the boat. Before and after these 3 days were goose eggs using the strategy they used.

Painfully slow retrieves? Or can a guy put some agression into the cranks? Just curious (and a bit inexperienced) smirk

Maybe not painfully slow, but dragging jigs with a subtle hop now and then has worked for me. I switch to casting/trolling Husky jerk-baits/Minnow style cranks in the fall so I just naturally slow down to about 2.0-1.8, usually I slow down before I speed up. When I cast cranks I like to jerk the stick baits and let them suspend for a few seconds.

I do tend to agree with TO on that the full moon doesn't usually spark a hot bite, but I have seen times where it did pick up during the full moon, but who knows what that was related to.

Are you fishing during the day or at night?

Riverrat and anyone else concerning the late bite--when a person says 12:00 or 1:00. Does that mean 2 hours hours after sunset? So in the fall that could be 9 or 10.

When the moon gets up in the air. You can look for moonrise tables. High in the sky, like 12 oclock noon is for the sun is the best time to be out there.
Usually sunset is ok, then you have to wait through a lull for maybe an hour or two for the moon to get up in the sky and brighten it and the waters.
Obviously this is more valid in clear water lakes and Mille Lacs is definitely one of them. Mille Lacs has also always had a great night bite, all throughout the year. Some lakes are better night lakes than others.

Explain what? Personally, I think the full moon phase gets a lot of attention because it makes for easier fishing (i.e. available light, etc).

No, by late, 1 or 2 in the morning, I really mean that time of night....

When I used to work at a resturant I would often go out after work, hitting the water at about 10:30 p.m. I can't explain why, but I will say that it would be a short lived window, and have noticed it on that particular lake at all times of year, even through the ice.
