Seem thin around my home between Brainerd and Merrifield compared to last year. Lots of coyotes around this summer.

I think the deer population is in pretty good shape. But they seem to be laying low during the daylight hours. It hasn't been very cold yet so they haven't been moving around to find more food. Plus the acorn crop is huge so there is plenty of food in the woods. I think we will start to see some activity towards the end of the month. We just need a three or four day cold snap.

I have a bunch of new does and a fork running around my hood so I'm hoping with this cooler weather we are seeing is helping allot. Tonight I hope to get a chance to see first hand.

I was up in Pequot last week and saw a ton of deer. They were all after dark though.

I was up last weekend around Motley. Spent a lot of time driving around, not seeing much for deer. Saw 12 total. All were a doe and 2 fawns. Quite a bit of corn still.

I'm going back archery on the 29th to 31st maybe abit longer,I was in the woods 4 hours and saw more deer in that time than 4 weeks out around home.
Course I think too many doe permits were given out around here and really decimated the pop.
Have you seen the deer density estimate from the DNR>?

They are starting to make scrapes, but I think they are just starting to get the "itch".

My daughter and I have taken a drive everynight this week around the Pillsbury forest and Pillager area. We have counted anywhere from 11-22 deer a night. We have seen 1 mature Buck (8 pointer) and 4 yearling bucks (spike/fork). Last night we saw the most deer (22). We have been doing this for the past 4 years. This is the least amount we have seen during this time. 4 years ago we would see anywhere from 35-50 deer a night. I do think the population is down in 246.
