with this cold front moveing in it will cool off the water.there were several boats that fished the dam area this weekend.some did ok.mostly sauger but they had to work for them.as the water cools the bite will get much better.start in 8-15 feet and work deeper.use a ikes bright colored hair jig tipped with a fat head minnow and vertical jig.any one who stops at the store this week and mentions this aritical and buys a scoop of minnows will get one scoop free. good luck IKE

Are people just hitting the dam or are wing dams and humps holding active fish as well?

None of us have ever fished that section of the river before. One of the guys in our group is really into bass and I'm going to try to convert him to walleye's and sauger.

Any help anyone has to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Quetico there arent many wing dams up by the redwing dam.your best presentation is a IKES hair jig tipped with a fat head minnow.

People are just drifting down the river dragging jigs?

Quetico, good luck this weekend. We were down there on Saturday & nothing doing. One walleye in the early AM, about 8", a nice catfish, striped bass. Very slow. Hope you guys do better. Although it's worth noting that we're not river rats, either! Nobody we talked to was having much luck, either. Beautiful day, though.

We're going to skip this weekend & maybe head back down the weekend after. The water was 62 degrees by the dam on Sat AM.

I was up there this afternoon and caught 2 sauger, a few sheephead, and two catfish, no walleye. Fished everywhere from 10 feet to 18 feet. The water temp was 58 so it's cooling down fast. It would be nice to get some rain to pick up the flow, it makes it hard to cover ground while verticle jiggning when there's no current. I assume by next week this time it will finally start to get better. On a different note.... gas is $2.50 in Red Wing!!!!!!

Thanks for the gas info. I'll be towing my buddies boat with my truck. It'd be awesome to see that price drop.

Also, like Ike said, there aren't a lot of wing [PoorWordUsage]'s by the [PoorWordUsage] but stay to the right when to pass the "Y". DO NOT FLY UP THE LEFT SIDE!!!! There are two or three wings [PoorWordUsage]'s that come out about 100 yards from shore and they could put a hurten on your lower unit. You can see them by the ripples in the water, just be carefull.

It was a bit of a rough first day on the river. The anchors weren't heavy enough to hold and the tolling motor couldn't move us up the current on the right side. Sorry to all those who we ended up bumping into. We were the 3 guys in the Starcraft.

We got a few. One decent sauger at 17". No walleyes, just a crappie, white bass and 2 saugers. Maybe wait one more week for thing to cool down.
