In Duluth would be the breakwall under the lift bridge on the bay/park point side. Smelt or suckers on the bottom or cast spoons. Some MONSTERS in there.

Around Barkers Island in Superior is good and you can fish off shore there with a MN license. Might not be too good right now, but it is in the spring. Smelt, rapalas, or brigth spoons have worked great for me.

He did say Duluth. But if we are tossing in Superior than I will say behind Mc Donalds across the railroad tracks or on Wi. Point off the inside of the breakwalls. Some HUGE northerns in those places and some bonus Eelpout off the piers. Jigging a smelt or let it sit on bottom. I have seen some big stringers of northerns and pout off them piers.
Oh and the mouth of the Nemadji river also holds some pike as does the paper plant area and by the WLSSD discharge but you cant fish from shore there anymore.
Put some crawlers on bottom behind the paper plant and you will catch some massive carp.

I would call the DNR office in Superior to check on that. I have heard that you can fish Barkers and the Arrowhead fishing pier with a Mn. license but I would call and make sure. Get the name of the person that says its ok, if they do, so if a Wi. DNR tries to ticket you you can say who told you it was ok.

In WI you dont need a stamp for fishing species other then trout or salmon while on Lake Superior. Always good to get one though, as it is common to catch these fish anytime your out there. If you dont have one and catch a species of trout or salmon, they must be released immediately.

With a MN license you a need a trout stamp to fish Lake Superior even if your not fishing for trout. Thats why I was wondering if he would need one off Barkers and using a MN license. It gets complicated.

I had to call the WI DNR and ask if it was ok to fish the MN side of Surperior and catch your limit of lakers all over 24 inches and use a boat landing in Wisconsin. And the answer is yes as long as the fish were caught in MN waters.

You dont need a trout stamp to fish within St. Louis Bay or River. As Jim stated on Wi. waters of Lake Superior you can fish walleyes out there without a trout stamp. Thing thats tricky is if your say down rigging for walleyes they may ticket you for no trout stamp because you are using tactics usually used for trout/salmon. Its tricky /grey area and they would have to prove it in court some how but I find its better you just pay the small fee for the stamp and stay on the CO's good side. When your out there as much as I am and get checked as often as I do it dont pay to give them any reasons to doubt your character.

2thepoint I wouldnt stop and drop a line in cheesey waters for say walleyes if you did that.
I asked the same thing about keeping more than 2 walleyes from the big lake and then fishing the river for pike/muskies. I was told it wasnt wise to be fishing the river with more than 2 walleyes in the livewell no matter what I was fishing for.
So I guess I would drop off my walleyes in a cooler in the truck and then go fish pike /ski's.
