Hey all,

Will be taking the family to Wild River State Park this coming weekend. Just wondering if there is much for fishing from shore this time of year around the park area. Not bringing a boat so shore fishing will be the only option. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all. wink

I was there earlier this summer and had a boat, but I did catch quite a few smallmouth and walleyes on crankbaits right around the park. There would be some water you could fish around the boat landing, the beach, and then the islands around the area where the nature trail comes down to the river. A rapala DT-6 is the perfect bait to throw, or any other crank that dives to about 6 feet. A jig head with a plastic or minnow would be another good option. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, will give it a try with the DT-6. Is there a place to get bait around the park close or should i bring from home?

Where the Sunrise River flows in can be good and is easily accessible. It is a little ways from the main park area though. There are hiking trails or you can drive almost right to it.

There really is no good place to buy bait in the area. The bar in Sunrise used to have crawlers, but that was years ago now. Best bet would be to bring something. The next closest place would be in St. Croix Falls or Chisago City...
