Anyone do any fall fishing on the vermillion (late october into november)? I heard walleyes move in from the 'sippi around this time of year. Just wondering if there may be any bite for eyes, silvers, and/or crappies?

If I'm not mistaken, the fish can no longer run from the 'sippi into the vermilion since they have changed the dike and river flow down towards the casino? Not really sure on this but thats what a few have said.

I've looked at the maps and I show it still connects down below the lock at pool 3/pool 4. There is a dam-like structure near hastings that stops the mississippi from washing out the vermillion, maybe thats what you are thinking of.

There's a couple different dams that prevent flow from the 'sippi into the vermillion...those have been there forever. The one I fish out of the deshane's launch usually holds lot's of fish below. Fishing is best when the water is low though.

The water still flows through from Trudell dike back into the miss, but the fish can no longer travel as freely into the vermilion as they used to. Only during high water would it be possible.

My strategy would be to start at the overflow down and see what's sitting below. Ever since they put in a new railroad bridge downstream from dushane's there hasn't been any fish there...curse those metal pillars!

When did they change out the blackbird railroad bridge?

I've tried getting a canoe to the dam by dushane's landing but there were too many trees in the water blocking the path. It was super shallow and not much water moving... perhaps you fish it with a little higher water levels?

I fished it early this spring when the water was real high, the dam was completely under water then. But it's best when the water level is normal. I normally get back there with minimal problems in a canoe. Also, the fishing is better when the water isn't flowing over. They must've replaced the bridge a few years ago...2 years ago was when I first seen it.
