Anyone have a report on the water level? Is it going to be a tough year getting out on the luck for duck hunting?

I heard theres a dam the dnr messes wit 2 regulate water levels ? I wonder what kind of hunting preassure there will be this yr considering canvasbacks are closed n only 1 bluebill? from my past experiences there( we go2nd or 3rd wk of Oct) it seems like a diver lake primarily? does the lake itself hold any decent #'s of mallards or do the stage down @ Aggasiz ? any input is appreciated.

not too many birds around yet. most of the locals are either dead or migrated out of here. no big push of birds from the north yet. went out in the area last weekend and got 8 birds. one banded blue wing teal from saskatchewan last year. pretty cool. but it seems like you are doing a little bit of internet scouting to me...

Internet scouting ? hmmm.. nicely put MFP .well well well wfkid welcome 2 the 21st century tard. This new fangled thing called the internet is designed for stuff like this. n this site is supposed to help fellow outdoorsman wit tips n reports n such as I recall. But yeah maybe I'll drive up from Mpls 2nite 2 ck things out...Not!! just askin 4 a simple report. Its not like the lake is a big secret.I guess I'll just go to the dnr website as they do a weekly report or just call directly to the Theif Lake wildlife mgt office n get a report.

i gave u a report. i could of lied to u and said there is a ten thousand birds up here and u waste 800 miles of gas round trip to get only three or four birds. i didnt think u were gonna take offense to internet scouting at all. ya but that dnr website is really good for information. before i went to school in TRF i used it alot to see how many birds were just north of me. drove by it scouting saturday after i was done hunitng about noon and there was 6 trucks/trailors there and not much shooting.

Yeah ya could a lied n sd there was 10k birds but who the [PoorWordUsage] woulda believed ya. Theres enough of you internet liars out there the way it is. As 2 the taking offense thing,I think the term internet scouting is overrated. What is this site for do ya think? n other like it . It's just nice to get a honest report from some decent guys w/out gettin guff about internet scoutin. I sure as heck would try my best n give ya report in hopes of a fellow sportsmen havin a lil luck huntin in m area if 1 asked. jus my.02.anyhow thnx for your report as there doesn't seem like to many guys from this area reply. Last yr there was a guy on here ,real standup guy. I 4get is handle who was really helpful as he informed me what was around for birds, whatlanding 2 use ,where 2 go . n evensaid he would stop by a help wit advice if needed. a real nice guy. actually even said he had some feilds we could hunt if interested.

wow that is a really nice guy. i personally dont hunt thief lake because i dont have a boat and motor. i just hunt the potholes and smaller ponds with a canoe, i just drive by it everytime im out hunting. i only have a canoe and i dont like hunting with that many different parties. no ive realized goin to school here that many do not like to give out too much information, i think thats why i said internet scouting sorry about that.

No offense taken wfkid,Yeah i've been up there the last 2 yrs n your exactly right. It seeems likes its hit or miss. But when ya gotta have your vac time put in mos.in advance its hard to time it perfect. Talked to sum other guys up there n they said about the same as you. 2yrs back we were up there right after mea n the lake froze.I imagine this wknd the lake will be full of hunter being MEA n all. I seen a canoe or 2 out there last yr.A few people have said there is a lil trickle of birds that have filtered in2 the st.according to the duck hunting reports i the ducks n geese forum. Keep me posted o how ya do huntin or if ya see any sort of influxof birds in the days n wks 2 come wfkid. Much input in greatly appreciated,I wont be able to make it up there this season due 2 work n all,but it would be nice to know if ya see a migration so to speak so i can gear up down here.ON a side note ya ever hunt the Roseau bogs?

thats coo, A couple of locals n a co. told me that when the mallards come thru they prefer to stage down @ Agassiz. Which I guess wouldn't surprise me being its a ref. n all. I read a article in DU that they do banding of Mallaeds there as well,ut not this ye due to that new castle disease stuff.
